A Fresh Start for Fall: Simple Ways to Refresh Your Home This September

September has a way of making everything feel a little different. Even when the Texas temperatures haven't quite gotten the message that fall is coming, a new month and a new season can make us crave a change at home. The good news? Refreshing your home for fall doesn't mean replacing everything you own or filling every surface with pumpkins. Sometimes the smallest, most thoughtful changes can completely change the way a room feels.

Start With What You Already Love

Before buying anything new, look around your home and notice the pieces you already love. A favorite piece of art, a beautiful bowl collected while traveling, family photographs, books you've had for years, or an accessory with a story behind it can become the starting point for an entirely new arrangement. We believe the most beautiful homes aren't filled simply for the sake of filling them—they're layered with pieces that mean something to the people who live there.

Bring in a Little Warmth

Fall is the perfect time to introduce warmer colors and textures without completely changing your palette. A rich velvet pillow, warmer throw, textured basket, beautiful candle, or a few touches of rust, gold, amber, deep blue or green can instantly make a room feel more inviting. If you love a lighter home, you don't have to suddenly turn everything brown and orange. Seasonal styling should complement your home—not compete with it.

Look to Nature

Florals and natural elements are one of our favorite ways to transition a home into a new season. Fresh or permanent botanicals, branches, succulents, natural wood, stone and other organic textures add dimension and life without feeling overly themed. Even one beautiful arrangement on a kitchen island, dining table or entry console can make the entire space feel refreshed.

Restyle Instead of Redecorate

Sometimes you don't need anything new at all. Moving artwork, rearranging bookshelves, changing the accessories on a coffee table, relocating a favorite lamp, or creating a new grouping from pieces you already own can make familiar rooms feel completely different. This is one of the reasons we love styling: it's amazing what can happen when the right pieces are simply put in the right places.

Let Your Home Evolve With You

Our homes aren't meant to stay exactly the same forever because neither do we. Families grow, children leave home, careers change, we move, downsize, start over, discover new things we love and enter entirely new chapters of life. Your home should be able to evolve right along with you. Sometimes that means a major transformation, and sometimes it simply means looking at what you already have with fresh eyes.

Make This Season Feel Like Home

As we welcome September, don't worry about creating a home that looks like everyone else's fall inspiration. Bring in the colors you love. Display the things that make you happy. Add warmth where your home needs it. Edit what no longer feels like you. The goal isn't to create a perfectly decorated house for a season—it's to create a beautiful home that feels wonderful to live in.
